What Reckoner learns from, and how to turn it off

Reckoner learns from a copy of the coaching decisions it makes, with you taken out of it, and only while you let it. Two switches on the Account page decide what goes in, and turning either off changes nothing about your plan.

Reckoner keeps a log of the coaching decisions it makes for you: a lift reset, a swap offered, what you decided to do about it, and how that lift went afterwards. That log is yours. It is how Reckoner knows what it has already tried with you, so it coaches you instead of repeating itself, and it is in your data export with everything else.

The copy that helps everyone

While Learn from my training is on, Reckoner also keeps a second copy of each decision with you taken out of it. That copy carries no name, no email address, no account id, nothing you typed and no actual weights. It holds the movement's pattern and muscle, the decision, your answer, the result, and a few rough bands, such as roughly how long you have been training. The only id on it is a random number made for you, so one lifter's decisions can be studied together without being studied as anybody.

It is used to answer one question: which answers actually get a stalled lift moving, and for whom. It is not sold, not shared with anyone and not used for anything else.

Two switches

Both are on the Account page, under What Reckoner learns from.

  • Learn from my training. A new account starts with it on. If your account was made before the switch existed, you are asked once, and nothing of yours is learned from until you say yes.
  • Learn from my health answers. Weight, body fat, measurements, pain and heart rate. They join the learning copy only if you say yes, and only while Learn from my training is on as well. They coach you whichever you answer. Today the learning copy holds none of anyone's health answers, so this switch decides whether yours ever may.

Turning it off

Turn off Learn from my training and every copy written for you is deleted in the same step, and nothing new is added while it stays off. Turn it back on and Reckoner learns from that day on. Nothing that was removed is ever brought back.

Say no to your health answers and Reckoner keeps no injury details. Those are the sore areas you told setup about so your plan could train around them, and any you gave are cleared at once. Instead you confirm you are fit to train against the standard health check setup asks everyone. If you say no after setup, you are asked to confirm on your next visit, and no new week is written for you until you do.

Whatever you choose, your plan, your weights and your history stay exactly the same. Your own coaching log is never touched by either switch, because that is how Reckoner coaches you.

A record of what you chose

Reckoner keeps a dated record of each answer you give to these two questions, and of each time you confirm you are fit to train. A record is never changed, it is in your data export, and it is deleted with your account. For the health check only a yes is recorded. If something on the list applies to you, nothing about it is written anywhere.

Deleting your account deletes your coaching log and the number that links you to the learning copy, so what is left there can no longer be connected to you. The full detail is in the privacy policy.

Your training coaches you either way. What it teaches everyone else is your call.
